The mission of our wine sisterhood is introducing Hungarian winemakers to a broad audience and the promotion of domestic wines. For this purpose we were co-organisers of the Hungarian Wines’ Ball every year since 2007, where all winemakers holding the award of „Winemaker of the Year” participated as special guests. As a tribute to their work, the opening ceremony included the winemakers’ ceremonial entry, each with a member of our Wine Sisterhood on his side.
The rank of these events has been raised by the Patrons, all of whom playing an important role in our country’s life. Besides great food and wines, high quality program presented by Marcsi Borbás, a popular presenter of gastronomy and wine television shows has been the key to the good mood. Dr. András Csizmadia, a well-known „gastro philosopher” improved wine enjoyment through his expert analysis.
Besides the excellent dinner, special wines of the “Winemakers of the Year”, delicious cheese, high-class Hungarian spirits (pálinka), exquisite cakes, hand-made chocolates and delicious hams contributed to the quality of these events. Presentations, coffee and tea rooms and, of course, dancing ensured an admirable atmosphere harmonious to the exclusive environment.
For our wine sisterhood it was very important to organize charity campaigns and to morally support the winemakers in addition to the entertainment. „The Winemaker of the Year People's Choice Award” has been founded by Attila Puskás, in memory of Tibor Gál. From 2009 we called for the „Pannonia Golden Ring and Cup” tender in order to seek out young, talented winemakers. The winners have been presented on the Hungarian Wines’ Ball: Csaba Sebestyén in 2011 and Mihály Figula jr. in 2013.
Even though only two of our members helped out in one of the many programs of the first event, a wine auction, afterwards, the whole wine sisterhood contributed to the success of the next seven Hungarian Wines’ Balls.
